National Screening tests

The NHS offers a number of screening tests aimed either at detecting precancerous conditions [cervical smear test] or very early cancers [breast screening and bowel screening]
We strongly advise our patients to take up these tests. They are all by invitation and a letter will be sent to those who are eligible. 

If you have lost your invitation or think you have been missed out or have missed an appointment, you can still have your tests. Please speak to reception, the practice nurse or the doctor.  For replacement of bowel screening kits you can phone  0800 0121 833

Nurse Practitioners and Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner run clinics alongside Duty Doctor.  The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.


Gillian Rutherford (f)

The phlebotomist is specially trained in collecting blood samples . She does clinics by appointment and home visits to the housebound. 

Community/District Nurses

0131 549 7360. The district nurses work alongside the practice team although are managed by the health board. For details see 'Healthcare Team' tab.
