National Screening tests

The NHS offers a number of screening tests aimed either at detecting precancerous conditions [cervical smear test] or very early cancers [breast screening and bowel screening]
We strongly advise our patients to take up these tests. They are all by invitation and a letter will be sent to those who are eligible.

If you have lost your invitation or think you have been missed out or have missed an appointment, you can still have your tests. Please speak to reception, the practice nurse or the doctor.  For replacement of bowel screening kits you can phone  0800 0121 833

Test Results

It is your responsibility to contact the practice and find out your results. Please allow 5 working days from the date of any test and call the surgery after 10am. Some test results may take longer to come back, including some blood tests and X rays. RESULTS OF TESTS ORGANISED BY HOSPITAL CLINICIANS ARE SENT BACK TO THEM AND YOU SHOULD GET THE RESULT FROM THEM> This can take a bit longer

Our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results but they can pass on messages from the doctor and make any necessary follow-up appointment with the doctor/nurse.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

Specimens should be handed in to the surgery before 14.00 hrs Monday to Thursday and before 12.30 hrs Friday to ensure collection that day.
